Home Minister insists on development of sports sector
Kathmandu, Aug 18(RSS):Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has insisted on the need of development of sports to achieve prosperity in the country.
In his address to the concluding ceremony of second Mount Everest Bodybuilding Championship-2075 here Saturday, the Home Minister presented the examples of better utilization of sports diplomacy by some countries to establish good foreign relations at the global forum.
“Development of sports sector remains in the list of high priorities of the government,” he said, adding that the government was fully committed to coming up policies and laws required to address issues in the area of sports.
Nepal is currently in the phase of development and youth energy and sports could be connected to it to achieve expected results, according to him.
Table tennis served as the means of improving bilateral ties between the United States of America and China and of late the North and South Korea relations were improved because of the sports, he added.
On the occasion, the minister presented awards to the winners of the competition.
They are Avash Pyakurel (55 kg category), Gaurab Shrestha (60kg), Aashis Dhewaju ( 65kg), Sanjiv Shrestha (70kg), Marichman Lama ( 75kg) and Umesh Rai ( above 75kg).
Pampha Rai clinched the title towards the women category. The event was organised by the Nepal Bodybuilding Federation.
