Over 300,000 devotees worship at Pashupatinath Temple by today noon on Teej festival

Kathmandu: Devotees, mostly fasting women, have thronged the Pashupatinath Temple here today to pay homage to god Shiva on the occasion of the Haritalika Teej festival today.

Over 300,000 devotees have worshipped at Pashupati Temple by today noon, said the Pashupati Area Development Trust. All four doors of the temple remained open for the devotees who lined up since today dawn. Arrangements have been made for facilitating the worshippers, and traffic along Tilganga-Gaushala-Chabahil road close to the Pashupatinath Temple are into operation, easing their movements, said PADT’s member Dr Pradip Dhakal.

Common are the scenes of groups of women clad in red, green and orange clothing especially saris and blouse singing Teej songs and dancing in the premises of the temple.

Other temples like Gokarneshwor in Kathmandu, Doleshwor of Bhaktapur, and Shivalaya, Dhaneshwor, Kusheshwor and Halesi in districts outside Kathmandu valley are crowded with devotees on the occasion.

On the day, women fast and wish for a prosperous life of their spouse which falls on the third day of the waxing moon in the Nepali month of Bhadra. Women savour various delicacies known as Dar a day before the festival day.RSS
